Join us for our Fall Elective Classes which start on November 3. For three consecutive Sundays at 9:30 am you can join one of these classes: a study on 2 Thessalonians, a study of Galatians chapters 4 through 6, or Old Testament Survey. We encourage you to join us for our interesting electives!

During our Corporate Worship Service, Pastor Matt is continuing his sermon series on the first six chapters of the Gospel of John. Currently, we are in John 6 and have seen how easy and it is to believe in the saving work of Christ.  Pastor Matt made the distinction that although it is easy to believe, it is a long and difficult road to grow in our sanctification. Our worship service begins at 11am.

Pastor Matt is continuing to teach on “Apologetics: Answering Objections to Christianity” during our 9:30 Bible Study Hour. We have discussed the privilege of persuasion, the existence of God, textual evidence for the Bible as the word of God, and the validity of the resurrection. This week we will be discussing the problem of pain. Join us for this informative study!

On October 20 & 27 we will have a two-week study during our Bible Study Hour entitled “How to think Biblically as a Citizen of America and a Child of God.” Three men from our church will present a panel discussion on general social and political ideas from a Biblical perspective. Come join us for these informative sessions as we look at issues from a Biblical Worldview.

Our study on the first six chapter of John continues during our 11:00 Corporate Worship Service. Pastor Matt is currently preaching on chapter 6, as we see how feeding the masses confirms that Jesus is the Good Shepherd and how calming the storm exhibits his authority over creation. Just as the disciples looked to worldly metrics to solve their lack of bread, we need to add “trusting Jesus” to the issues in our life. Citing parallels with Psalm 23, we were reminded that Christ is enough, and he supplies our needs abundantly.  Pastor Matt reminded us that although anxiety is on the rise in our culture, we need to constantly draw closer to Christ and we will stand out in our society for our dependence on Him.

During our 9:30 Bible Hour, Pastor Matt is beginning a series on “Apologetics: Answering Objections to Christianity.” This study will start on Sunday September 8.  Join us for this equipping and informative study!

Our study on the first 6 chapters on the Gospel of John continues during our 11:00 Corporate Worship Service. From John 4, Pastor Matt has discussed how Jesus masterfully dealt with the Samaritan woman at the well. Through Jesus conversation with her, we saw how everyone has a context, everyone has worldly programming, and everyone has perceived and actual needs. The compassion of Jesus was on display when he stayed two days in this village. Are we as flexible in our schedules to what God is doing in our midst?

In John 5, Jesus defies convention and elevates compassion over man-made custom by healing the lame man on the Sabbath. He reminds us that the Sabbath was not made to oppress man, but rather the Sabbath was made for man to reflect on God’s grace. Jesus does not command the man to break Mosaic law, but He allows the man to break custom, or the interpretation of the Law which for the religious leaders, had become an unbreakable and infallible code of conduct. What are we giving unnecessary attention and disproportionate importance to which may be blocking God’s blessings and stealing our joy? Please join us to be challenged and encouraged by the Word of God on Sunday mornings as we study “The Word of Grace and Truth: John chapters 1-6.”

During Bible Hour from 9:30-10:30 we are studying the Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24 –25. If the gospel of Matthew has a theme, it may be what kingdom are you building? The author wants us to be prepared now for the imminence of the eschatological period.  In chapter 24, Jesus gives us the information and framework about the end times; chapter 25 is then the exhortation to action from his teaching. As Christians, we need not be people of sight, but of insight. Disciples of Christ should have deep insight based on the word of God and push away the gullibility of this age.

Join us for our Corporate Worship Service as we explore the Gospel of John with Pastor Matt’s sermon series entitled The Word of Grace and Truth: John chapters 1-6. Recently, we have seen how John anchors reality with Jesus as full deity, as co-creator and as light and life. We, like the moon reflecting the sun’s rays, ought to reflect the light of Christ to our culture. We will shine more brightly based on our proximity to the Word of God and to prayer. How well are we reflecting the life and light of Christ in our world? Come study with us as we grow deeper in our allegiance and obedience to Christ through this study from the Gospel of John. Service begins at 11 am.

Pastor Matt is finishing up a study on Controversial Issues during the Bible Hour. Join us from 9:30-10:30 for some interesting discussion. Soon he will begin teaching a study on the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24-25) during the months of May and June.

We are nearing the end of our study in 1 Thessalonians during the Corporate Worship Service. We have been reminded from Paul’s letter that our behaviors come from our mentality, our thinking. God’s will for every believer includes being joyful, living prayerfully and living a life of thanks in all circumstances (1 Thes 5:16-18). This mental posture and approach to life was Paul’s pattern and it is just as vital and necessary for Christians today.

Pastor Matt’s next sermon series is entitled The Word of Grace and Truth: John 1-6.

During Bible Hour we are covering Controversial Issues in Christianity, where good Christians have differing opinions. So far, Pastor Matt has taught on the Doctrine of Hell and the Doctrine of the Atonement. Our understanding of Scripture hinges on our method of Biblical interpretation. More issues to come in the following weeks. Bible Hour is interactive, with questions and comments welcome from the congregation. Please Join us at 9:30 for Bible Hour.

For our 11 am Corporate Worship Service, Pastor Matt is preaching through 1 Thessalonians. Recently we studied chapter 4: 14-18, where Paul reminds Christians that the seeming permanence of death is only temporary because of Christ’s resurrection (1 Cor 15:17-18). We need to be informed and encouraged because of the reality of the resurrection and of the rapture (1 Thes 4:14, 18). All people, including unbelievers will be resurrected into an eternally lasting physical form (Matt 25:46). While we wait, this knowledge should provoke us to purity and endurance. Join us for Sunday mornings for sermons on 1 Thessalonians.

During the Bible Hour, Pastor Matt is teaching on the four key components of our church name. We are currently in “Bible” as we discuss how the Word of God is our lamp to our feet (Psalm 119:105) and how our time spent in the word of God has a purifying effect on our emotions and beliefs. The value for studying the Bible has lasting worth in this life and the life to come. Join us at 9:30 as we continue to study the Bible and then study the Church (Ecclesiology).

During our corporate worship service at 11 am, we are studying 1 Thessalonians. In chapter 4 we have seen how sanctification is an emphasis and Pastor Matt defined sanctification as “the process of taking something or someone corrupted, defiled and unhelpful and making them holy, pure and useful.”  He reminded us that we should “pursue with unrelenting dedication sanctification to maximize our usefulness to God.” Christians should be distinct from our world system and that this is not mere conformity of behavior, but it is a change that starts in the mind.  As we learn more about the Lord, our passionate pursuit should be holiness. You are encouraged to join us for this transformative study!

During the 9:30 Bible Hour Pastor Matt is teaching on the four key components in our church name: Grace Atlanta Bible Church.

First, we were reminded that we are people of grace. We need grace, the undeserved blessing freely bestowed on a person by God for salvation, sanctification, and glorification. We looked at the different kinds of grace in the Bible, like common universal grace, special saving grace and sustaining sanctification grace. Now we are discussing how to contextualize the gospel, “helping the components of the Gospel be better understood in specific contexts where there may otherwise be barriers to understanding.” Contextualizing is not compromising the gospel in anyway. We looked at examples in Scripture including Stephen in Acts 7, Paul and Barnabas in Acts 13 and Paul on Mars Hill in Acts 17.  We can be strategic with the gospel to capitalize on elements of the gospel for maximum connection.  The Gospel is always relevant with its discussion of sin, our individual need for a savior and where we spend eternity. Join us as we continue this topical study.

During the 11 am Corporate Worship Service Pastor Matt continues to preach through 1 Thessalonians. From chapter 1 we see that we need to pursue high quality Christian service in order to impact the world with Biblically based truth and grace. Paul was thankful for the fellow believers and mentioned their faith, love, and hope, commending their endurance. Our labor should be motivated not by obligation or fear, but our growing love for God and for others.

From chapter 2 we saw Paul appealing to his integrity in his dealing with the Christians in Thessalonica. We studied his two analogies of being gentle like a nursing mother (2:7) as well as like a father (2:11-12) in encouraging, comforting, and urging them to live in a way pleasing to God. The transfer of nutrients from mother to baby remind us that Paul, too, intentionally and strategically provided care and Biblical nutrition in a loving and graceful way. Also, the Biblical nutrition that you pass along is only as good as what you receive, so our distribution of Biblical truth will never be better than our input. As Pastor Matt summarized, “An impactful recipe for the dissemination of the Gospel and of Biblical truth today is a combination of relationship, time, compassion and content (2:12-13).”

We are wrapping up our study of Zechariah during the Bible Study Hour in the next few weeks.  Currently we are surveying chapters 9-14, the section that is most often quoted in the New Testament. Last week we discussed the wise and foolish shepherds in Zechariah 11. Join us at 9:30 for our Zechariah study.

In our Sunday Morning Worship Service, we are nearing the end of James chapter 5. Recently, Pastor Matt has discussed how faith healers play on the deception of deluded people, and that instead, we must pray fervently and trust God for the outcome.  He reminded us that the Father saying no to the Son’s prayer (see Matthew 26:39) demolishes the belief that one’s faith is related to the fervency of our prayers. God, as a perfect parent, loves us enough to even say no to our prayers. Join us at 11 am for our study on the Book of James.

On December 17th Pastor Matt will begin preaching Christmas themed messages. Please join us on Sunday December 24 for our special Christmas service.
