Sermons and Lessons

Below are videos of some sermons from the last few years by our pastor as well as some of our lay teachers. These include video messages from the Gospel of Luke, from our study of the Emerging Church, and also about why we disagree with the Charismatic movement.  Many of our services and lessons can be accessed on YouTube here.

My Lord and My God!  Exegesis, Theology and Practice of the Doctrine of Christ’s Deity

This series is an extended discussion of the importance of the doctrine of the deity of Christ. We explore several key passages and theological and thematic points where that demonstrate the New Testament's assertion that Christ is fully God, and why that truth is critical for our salvation.

The Bible teaches that Christ is God, the second Person of the divine Trinity, co-eternal, and co-equal with the Father (Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-3; 10:30; 17:21; 20:28; Phil 2:6-11; 1 Cor 8:6; Col 1:15-17, 19; 2:9; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:3, 6, 8; 2 Peter 1:1; 1 John 5:20; Rev 22:13). We hope that this series will explain through these verses adequately and help you to understand why this doctrine is so important.

The first several messages from this series can be found on our pastor's Soundcloud page here.

How to Argue Well: Using the Bible to Argue Valid Exegetical and Theological Points (April 2016)

Many theological discussions between believers or with unbeliebers are muddled with personal opinions, preferences, or presuppotsions rather than with clearly-articulated and Biblcially-based points. These five messages discuss how to identify clear and direct verses to make powerful theological arguments that are Scripturally sound and exegetically accurate. This entire series is available on our pastor's Soundcloud page here, and this link will also direct you to a worksheet that you can download to guide you through this crucial series.

The Great Reversal, The Rich Man and LazarusLuke 16:19-31, June 29, 2014, First Hour

In this parable of the rich man and Lazarus, we see Jesus' teaching about how the future is a great reversal.  This passage describes the condition now and the reversal of eternity that warns us that we should take the afterlife seriously in this life.

The Cost of Discipleship, Part 2, Luke 14:28-35, June 1, 2014, Second Hour

In our pursuit of discipleship to Christ, we must also recognize the cost of discipleship.  With that in mind, are we willing to invest in discipleship and in a singularity of allegiance to Him?

The Allegiance of Discipleship, Luke 14:25-27, June 15, 2014, First Hour

This hour, we deal with a difficult passage where Jesus teaches that our affection for God must be the first priority in our life - far ahead of anything else. This morning, we also have reports by some of our teens who participated in our T.E.E.M.E. local missions trip from June 9-12.

Keys About the Kingdom, Luke 13:18-28, June 8, 2014, Second Hour

We discuss some realities about the kingdom of God during this age that are counter-cultural and counter-intuitive.  The kingdom of God is having great effect, whether we always see those effects of not.

God’s Care For You, Luke 12:1-12, June 1, 2014, Second Hour

In this passage we discuss a variety of impediments and difficulties in our Christina life that God protects us from, esspecially when we witness and when we face opposition.

A Primer on Prayer, Part 2, Luke 11:1-13,
June 1, 2014, First Hour

In this lesson we describe the theology and practice of persistence in prayer.

Identifying and Refuting the Emerging Church Movement

What is the Emerging Church Movement?  How is it related to post-modernism?  How can we see the value of the movement but also recognize and refute the danger of the movement?  Below are the first two lessons from April 27, 2014 regarding the good, the bad, and the ugly about the Emergent Church movement.

Identifying and Refuting the Emerging Church Movement, Part 1, April 27, 2014, First Hour

In this first hour we discuss the basics about the Emerging Church Movement, and how it relates to post-modernism.

Identifying and Refuting the Emerging Church Movement, Part 2, April 27, 2014, Second Hour

In this second hour we continue to discuss characteristics of post-modernism and the similar stance toward truth that Emergents adopt.

Continuationism and Cessationism:
Which Spiritual Gifts Are Operative Today and Which Are Not?

In December 2013, we addressed the issue of the which gifts of the Holy Spirit continue down to the present day and which spiritual gifts ceased at some point in the first century.  Below, we provide parts 1 and 2 of this series about the history of the charismatic movement, and some Biblical texts that we believe affirm the position that the sign gifts, like tongues, healings, and prophecy, ceased soon after the apostles finished writing the New Testament.

Continuationism and Cessationism, Part 1, December 1, 2013, First Hour

This first part of this series is an introduction to the topic of spiritual gifts, as well as some clarification about the issues that will help us avoid some pitfalls as we interact with those who may be on the other side of this issue from us.

Continuationism and Cessationism, Part 2, December 1, 2013, Second Hour

Part 2 of this series briefly investigates the dubious history of the charismatic movement and we begin to explore some Biblical texts that support the cessationist position.  Unfortunately, the sound quality of this video is not very good, so you will have to turn your speakers way up in order to hear it (just make sure you turn them down again before you listen to the next one!).

Our Lay Teachers

It is always a thrill to see others in our fellowship exercise their teaching and preaching gifts.  Below are a few examples of valuable lessons from some of our GABC men as they cover Biblical passages and theological topics.

The Peril of Self-Righteousness, Luke 18:9-14, March 30, 2014, Thomas Sherer

Thomas Sherer teaches about the Jesus' parable involving a pharisee and a tax collector.  As it turns out, it was the despised tax collector who understood true faith and humility before God, whereas the "religious" pharisee, was too blinded by his self-righteousness to understand how to have a right relationship with God.  This passages raises the question of whether we, too, understand our faith, or are too wrapped-up in our own self-righteousness.

The Value of Critical Thinking, October 7, 2012, Eddie Morgan

Eddie Morgan discusses the common logical falicies that many people use today in science, politics and religion.  These logical falacies need to be recognized by discerning believers and voters.  This lesson reflects not only truths of Scripture, but also some of the challenges that belivers have in presenting the truths of God's Word today. Unfortuantely, the sound quality for this video is a bit staticy, but this is still well worth listening to anyway.

Evidence For The Existence of God,
November 12, 2012, Mike Koster

Does God exist?  Is there any evidence outside the Bible that verifies Scripture's claims that God exists?  Mike Koster examines some important evidence for God's existance that any athiest would find hard to refute.
